PCT day 19 - mile 369 to mile 389
"I always wait for all my kids to come before I cross the road" Miss Frizzle.
After a fairly good night sleep with three other hikers on a comfy carpet in tiny room at Maria's house, we woke up at 7:30am, and came down for breakfast. We ate sausages, refried beans, tacos and avocado. After breakfast we left our bags in Maria's car and went down to town to resupply. As per usual I got too much food, Tank Top got new pair of shoes through the mail as his old ones started to fall apart after 700 miles of walking (that's his 3rd pair since he started hiking on AT). After about an hour we called Maria and she dropped us back at the trail.
We started walking at 11am, before setting off we met a trail famous Field Trip family, mother called Miss Frizzle and her four sons aged 16, 15, 14 and 12, they already through hiked Appalachian Trail last year and this year like us, they are trying to through hike PCT. It was amazing to see how organized and 'dialled in' they were.
After few easy miles, the ascent to mount Baden-Powell begun. Initially it wasn't bad, but the last 2 miles of it were covered in snow and steep, it was slippery and the path was confusing, I got lost two times before reaching the top. We enjoyed the views for a couple of minutes, but there was still a lot of miles ahead of us so we set our feet back on trail. We scooped by the only water source in 15 miles and decided to do another 5 miles of walking even though it was getting late.
At about 6:30pm we were going through the parking lot and a guy looking like a trail angel offered us a burrito. It turned out he was a friend of Field Trip family and he was waiting here to feed them, after 15 minutes (and to our big surprise) the family arrived, they pushed some serious miles today and kept an amazing tempo through this difficult terrain.
As we were leaving, we got offered another burrito which Tank Top ended up carrying twelve hundred feet up and twelve hundred down over our remaining 3 miles before reaching the camp. An epic burrito carry indeed.
I only set up my tents inner layer for tonight, I'll see how it's going to work out, not quite cowboy camping but I will still be able to see the sky.
