Legs and Borders

"As of 1st of June there is water here and snow free space for many tents depending on how friendly you are" Ultra. The day didn't worked out quite as planned but it wasn't necessarily a bad thing for once. We woke up early and attempted to chase Ravi and Sunshine who ended up ahead of us yesterday due to myself taking the wrong path and putting me and Owen an hour behind. Problem with the group I'm hiking with at the moment is that our pace and routines are so similar that it's extremely difficult to catch up in this sort of situations. Especially when the people you chase have what I would call a "town day gravity pull". Tomorrow we will reach Lake Tahoe South, me and Owen ended up 8 miles away from it which is perfect because we can be by the Highway by 9am and get a hitch to town arriving there when everything is opened. "Hike your own hike" Hiker's proverb. It was a bit of an odd day. We agreed to hike 24 miles to a junction which had some camping spots as well. The morning portion of the day went really well and we had a first meal break before 10am. Then I ended up walking with Owen and we started talking, mainly about food and gaming but it was a fun conversation. Think I got used to hiking on my own so much that talking with someone while walking distracted me enough to take a wrong turn and before I knew it we were 1.5 mile off the trail - 3 miles both ways and since we hike at about 2.5 miles an hour my rookie mistake put us substantially behind the schedule. The other problem was that we were at the front of the group, so when we disappeared, people behind us that is Ravi and Sunshine assumed after arriving at the agreed camping spot that we decided to push forward and so they also went further. "Kennedy Meadows North is so much better, Kennedy Meadows South was like a soap opera" Lazarus. "We make fire!" Sunshine. Today I hiked with Ravi, Sunshine and Owen out of Kennedy Meadows North. We got shuttle bus back to trail, nine hikers in total and all but one person is camping with us tonight, but what's most important we made fire! :) I packed up everything in the morning, tent and rest of the gear dried out overnight from the downpour of previous day. Then we went to have a breakfast with Guy, I had sausage and eggs and a bowl of oatmeal which was huge and very tasty. After that I finished my resupply, sadly snack selection in the shop wasn't too good and they ran out of snickers! Shuttle bus arrived at 10am, we said our goodbyes with Guy (perhaps we will visit him in his home in Lake Tahoe) and left.
