PCT day 83 - mile 1839 to mile 1869

Today was mainly walking in snow, trail reached rather disappointing highest PCT point in Oregon. Water issues continued, up to a point where (unless you wanted to melt the snow) people had to rely heavily on water caches. Day started with a pretty gentle ten mile walk after which the uphill section has started, it was nothing new and even despite the heavy snow for miles ahead from that point it wasn't anything out of ordinary. Weather was really good, it was warm but cloudy which helped with dehydration issues as the water availability was scarce. I encountered few very fat (presumably pregnant) toads along the way and took a photoshoot of one of them. It was so slow and clumsy that it gave up escaping after 30 seconds and allowed me to take any amount of photos necessary. There was a lot of day hikers on trail, everyone was getting lost in the snow asking for directions and being generally out of their comfort zone. I noticed that a lot of people is section hiking Oregon's P...

Me: Is that a bullet shell? Cucumber: Yes it is. Welcome to America. I woke up and carefully opened the tent to check if my rattlesnake neighbour from last night was still here and indeed it was still chilling in the previous spot, did not move a millimeter. I reckon it was sent by the snake federation as a reward for snake overload the previous day, to protect me from bears and bobcats. The day, especially compared to the previous one was fairly uneventful. Three fairly big ascents (Pinyon Mountain, Wyleys Knob and Skinner's Peak) throughout the day, followed by few miles of easy and shaded walk in the forrest, followed by last few miles of boring dirt road walking. The wind blew all day long, especially up high it was very strong and nearly knocked me down few times. Highlight of the day was crossing through the mile 630, as that was so far length of the longest continuous walk I did - South West Coast Path in England, followed by 500 mile long Camino de Santiago in Spain. Now th...

"I will be silent for a bit, when I'm going uphill I can't talk" David. "I started hiking on March 1st, but I'm living in Big Bear so I already took 44 zero days" David. Today I walked through the infamous section of the trail along the Los Angeles aqueduct. It was a long stretch of flat, baren land with very few features, but it's precisely that what made it interesting. It was a definition of a desert section and before starting the trail that was what I thought first 700 miles will look like. Nugget had to go to the post office to bounce her laptop and excess food to the next convenient point along the trail and since she didn't plan to hike until evening I decided to head out by myself. Weather was supposed to get hot tomorrow and since today was relatively cold day on this stretch it was a perfect time to go through it during the day (a lot of people hike it over night). I put my earphones on and I was listening to the music most of the day,...
