Kmicic Brewery

Image
This post is to celebrate the newspaper feature of my fellow sesyjni mordercy crew members in local newspaper, take a look if you have a spare second. Well done guys! Interview can be found here . visited with: Adm, Luks, Moc, Natalia and R2r in May last year. It was sort of a permission visit, where security guard was guiding us through one partially active building, adopted as a gym by a group of football hooligans. Then he gave us freedom to roam around the rest of the place. This is where we climbed the taller concrete building and managed to take few nice panoramas. Building itself bears a significant historical value but due to the actions of a current owner who prefers to sell anything of value to gain minor profit, rather than join the Heritage Trail ( Szlak Zabytków Techniki ) scheme (where the building could become a museum and perhaps recover), this listed building slowly crumbles. Brewery was founded in 1840 by the German colonist Lamprecht. In 1899 it got purc...

HPR Resort Kozubnik

Image
visited with: Szk, Luks, r2s and Adam, as a part of sesyjni mordercy crew. History: The construction of the resort started in 1968, within 2 years most of the work has been done. The site was a part of Hutnicze Przedsiębiorstwo Remontowe (HPR) in Katowice, Poland, which employed 18,000 workers. It was located in Porąbka, Beskid Mały in the area of 7.5 ha. It was a self-contained resort, had their own water intake, sewage and emergency power system powered by two 400 kw. tank engines. The resort hired a permanent medical personnel: a physician internist, a dentist, rehabilitation specialist, nurse, thus ensuring full medical protection. The guests wasn't ordinary working class members but communist dignitaries i.e. son of Leonid Brezniew, or so called 'visitors from the capitalist countries'. Glory times ended with the collapse of communism. In 1996 court has declared bankruptcy of it's owners, since then once powerful, high-standard resort is the image of misery and...

Gasworks and Ursus Factory

Image
Fast trip to the Polish capital to meet r2s and do some exploring. Gasworks Two red brick rotundas has been built in the years 1886-1888. They served as reservoirs of gas produced in the Warsaw Gasworks. It housed metal gas tanks, but they were destroyed in the 70s. They used to fit one thousand cubic meters of gas. During the war, artillery shell hit the tanks, but without explosion, gas lit to form huge flame. After the destruction in 1939, Gasworks was rebuilt and opened in 1945. Gas production terminated in 1978. From that moment the tanks stay empty. Fast but well worth the hassle explore, ancient Rome revisited. Ursus Factory Factory producing tractors, built between 1924-1928, in Czechowice (now a district of Ursus). In the 70s Ursus employed 30 000 people and plants produced 50 000 tractors per year. The plant began to decline in the late 90s. Unfortunately not much left from the former glory (even exploration wise) most of the items are g...

Ironworks Jedność and Cement Plant Szczakowa

Image
Both locations visited over the August weekend with sesyjni mordercy crew, namely: r2s , Luks and Moc. Ironworks Jedność Its origins date back to 1836, when Hugo Henckel von Donnersmarck and brothers Oppenfeld decided to build the plant. Same year the foundation stone for the construction of the steel plant has been laid. Place has been named Laurahütte . This name functioned until 1948, when it changed its name to Ironworks Unity [ Huta Jedność ]. When in 1842 a cargo ship sank with the English rails for the construction of tracks from Mysłowice to Wrocław, Silesian Railway company ordered new rails in unknown at the time mill Laura. It's quality made the company famous in Europe and a number of early European railways built in that period ordered it's rails and rail accessories here. At the beginning of the XXI century black page in the history of the Silesia engraved unfulfilled promises by Prime Minister and government to support the Iron...

Chemical Plant Wistom

Image
Done this location during the summer with r2s, lu of sesyjni mordercy crew and our friend Sebastian. Nice location, we did expect a little bit more though, plant is partially demolished, the rest is stripped out and heavily used by paintball enthusiasts. history: the plant was founded in 1912 initially as the artificial silk factory. It was the largest producer of synthetic fibers in the country. During the German occupation it was used for testing internal combustion engines, in 1946 original activity was resumed. In it's heyday company employed almost 10 thousand persons. As the factory was producing and releasing to the atmosphere extensive amounts of toxic gases, it was decommissioned in the late 90s.
