PCT day 15 - mile 266 to mile 285
"I went out of the tent in the morning to do my business, found a perfect spot so I'm digging a hole with the trowel.. and there was already shit in it" Tom.
The night was cold, in fact that might have been the coldest night I had since starting PCT and it was indoors.. Kenny said before breakfast that if we won't stop talking about it, we will eat outside.. rude?!
The breakfast was as promised though big and tasty. We had fruit salad, gammon, fried potatoes with onion and peppers (which I particularly liked), scrambled eggs and French toast with maple syrup. After everyone has finished, Kenny started to ship people back to the trail, town or post office wherever they wanted to go. I missed the first transport (no idea how) but managed to get on the second one and I was back on trail by 10:30.
It was smooth sailing today and despite late start myself and a lot of people starting with me or later, managed to do ye olde 20 miles. We pitched tents at the "Little Bear Trail Camp" which even has its own toilet in the middle of nowhere!
Today was my first day of walking alone, as Tom was in no rush to push ahead and took a zero day, in fact his 12 months long sabbatical started yesterday. He tagged along with me (and vice versa) to ease in into the whole hiking experience. I enjoyed walking with him over the last two weeks, it definitely made my time here more enjoyable and sociable, I also learned few things about American culture from him as he has been here before. We made few good (and not so good) memories like climbing San Jacinto, meeting Kerry and Kenny two very interesting entrepreneurs, we experienced lots of trail magic - best one being in Julian under the bridge after a long day of walking. We got our first hitchhike together with two dogs and two great parents/trail angels of hikers, we got 'trail baptised' in the stream in the middle of a desert. We completed 265 miles or 10% of the entire PCT together which isn't an insignificant number!
Happy trails Tom! I hope rest of your PCT experience and further adventures in Canada and South America will be wholesome and memorable. It was a pleasure hiking with you :)
Few snaps from today:
That's Kenny behind me :)
