PCT day 81 - mile 1776 to mile 1809

Today can be described by two words: mosquitoes! and snow?

Oh yes, there were gazillions of the bloodthirsty insects on the trail today, I have never seen such an accumulation of them in one place and hopefully I never will. I couldn't even stop to have a five minute break without being swarmed by about 50 of them. Finally I gave up and put bug net on my head, in combination with long trousers and long sleeve shirt I could finally embrace the buzz. I ended up wearing the net pretty much all day and it looks like it will become my new everyday item.

As for the snow. We've been passing through Devil's Peak with the amounts of it reminding me some of the Passes in Sierras! There was a good mile descend in deep snow and a big glissade right in the middle I didn't dare to take. To be fair, that was the last thing I was expecting in Oregon, yet again PCT catches me off guard.

Other than this two issues the day was really cruisy, everybody I walked along with did good miles, substantially splitting the difference to Crater Lake for tomorrow. Apparently there's also a lot of snow on it's rim trail where we are heading soon, today rangers reopened few closed parts of it, so it should be fully accessible now.

Unfortunately I'm camping in the old burned area with many dead trees around, but I managed to find fairly safe spot among few living ones in the area. It should be a peaceful night.

There were loads of these tiny trogs hopping on the trail today:
