PCT day 79 - mile 1721 to mile 1747
Weather was still miserable in the morning so I was walking in fog and rain until about 10am when the sky started to clear and the sun made an appearance. By then my shoes and trousers were fully soaked, it reminded me of certain days walking through the Sierras where getting wet was a part of the deal.
In the contrary drinking water was difficult to find for most of the day, there were only two reliable sources for about twenty miles, which is odd because we are walking now through a green corridor and the rainfall in Oregon is considerably higher than in California.
The terrain as anticipated got much easier, the time of steep ascents is now postponed until Washington or so I hope. The path is also mostly a soft forrest floor, with very few dead fallen trees obstructing it and hardly any stones - it can be overgrown by weeds sometimes which during rainy days like today can make you very wet.
Todays green corridor didn't have many opportunities for landscape photography, so I've been taking more shots of insects and flowers, scenery might be not breathtaking but I find it almost as interesting as raw highness of the Sierras and North California.
Just before 4pm I found myself on the road leading to Hyatt Resort where apparently a good pizzas has been served and hiker box was better than usual so I catched a short hitchhike and soon after I was eating a farmhouse pizza in the restaurant. I also picked up some trail mix and a Knorr side from the hiker box, waiter informed me that they are short staffed so he won't be able to drive me back but since it was only 1.5 miles from trail it wasn't much of a problem.
Once back on trail I've hiked few additional miles to round up the day and I set up the tent in an unmarked campsite where I knew for sure no one else would camp - so I could yawn, roll over and pass winds as loud and often as I wanted to.
I also met a local hunter walking his two dogs on trail and told him about my mountain lion encounter to which he replied that he was out hunting hundreds of times in this area, he know that there's many mountain lions inhabiting it but he has never seen one. It proves the point just how rare and random those encounters are, it made me feel quite lucky and gratefull to whoever threw a dice for it.
It was an average but very enjoyable trail day.
