PCT day 58 - mile 1179 to mile 1205 (Sierra City)

"If we incline to forget how much there is in the world besides that which we anticipate then works of art are perhaps a little to blame. For in them we find the same process of simplification at work as in the imagination. Artistic accounts involve severe abbreviations of what reality will force upon us" Alain de Botton.

First day for about 400 miles without a snow! The torment is over, praise the Lord we can walk on dry and firm trail once again.

Looks like I am moving in a bubble with Mama Troll and Mud Skipper, not only they joined me yesterday in the campsite but also today we stayed for few hours in Sierra City to redupply. There was a lot of cruising for everyone today, all the way to the town has been easy, well maintained trail and it was mostly downhill. Mama and Mud got resupply packages send here and since they shipped too much (it's always the case) they shared few things with me, like olive oil and tortillas - I was actually avoiding using olive oil so far, but since I lost fair amount of weight over last few weeks I might give it a go and see if my body likes it.

Sierra City itself was possibly the smallest town on PCT so far, one grocery shop, a hotel, two restaurants and an RV park, the prices were quite high as well, I paid 60$ just to refill my snacks for the next 6 days. One of the issues is that there is no good way to resupply from now on for the next 140 miles, so everyone will be speeding and trying to make it through as soon as possible.

Project audiobook is going really well, I've just finished listening to "Art of the Travel" by Alain de Botton (hence the quote), he is discussing in it artist like Beaudelaire, Facault, Ruskin or Van Gogh for which travel was essential life and art changing matter, very interesting book, next one on the menu is "Gnój" by Wojciech Kuczok.

After leaving the town, a chunky 2.4k feet ascent was awaiting us, I took a hitch back to trail with a Dutch guy called Build a Bear who's glove I also found and picked up from the trail yesterday (hey a good deed and it actually worked!), we got a ride with a cowboy looking guy leaving in Truckee who was visiting his son in the area.

Overall a good day of ye olde hiking, I pitched a tent next to a lake and like yesterday I got that sweet white noise of water sending me to sleep, water from the lake is also really tasty. Hopefully tomorrow will bring similar vibes.

Hitching to town on the trailer full of garden waste :D
I'm still hanging the food, just in case:
