PCT Day 57 - mile 1157 to mile 1179
"No alarms and no surprises please" Radiohead.
Today was as positively uneventful and steady as most of the days should be, no gusts of winds, torrential rains and sliding rocks, just the good old hiking in the sun.
I left my hostel bunk bed at 7am with package addressed for UK lall sealed and ready to be posted, but I decided to go to UPS outlet instead of regular post office as it had way better reviews and there was a McDonalds on its way (sausage and egg mcmuffin ftw). There was a free bus going towards the PCT leaving just from the front of the UPS store at 8:52 and since the place opened at 8:30 and I was first in the queue I thought it will give me enough time to board it. Bus would take me just few miles away lfrom trail and hitching from there should have been easy.
Well, let's just say that the paperwork behind sending things abroad in US takes a lot of time, the postage also cost me an astronomical amount (way more than the contents of the package). But there was a method in this madness, I started chatting with a couple from Cleveland, they been posting some souvenirs back home. After they heard that I will be missing the bus, they offered to take me back to the trail! They had two of their children in the car and tons of baggage in the trunk, so they let me sit in the front with my backpack on the lap, haha. I was very grateful, they saved me a lot of time and effort, great people.
Once I stepped back on the path the day was fairly uneventful (in a good way). Snow patches were still making an occasional appearance but the trail was way drier than in the previous days. I met only one other through hiker, there were quite a few day hikers around though.
I'm camping by the Mules Ear Creek tonight, campsite is quite pretty and nicely leveled, I can hear the blissful white noise of the stream by in the distance, it really puts me to rest. I'm only 16 miles away from Sierra City so it looks like tomorrow will be another little town day. Eat, resupply, hike, repeat. Sign me in!
