Appalachian Trail (day 5) - Dick's Creek Gap to Betty Creek Gap / mile 97
"Peace" Peace
Big day with good miles. Weather was permitting and since it's meant to be raining for the next two days it would be a shame not to take advantage of the sunny sky.
Trail was quite rollercoastery again but after Standing Indian Mountain it flattened and there was even some ridge walking and good views! What a pleasant surprise.
Trail was running through the area where Cocaine Bears action took place. In real life bear found crashed plane which was smuggling cocaine through US, ate it, overdosed and died on the spot. In the movie bear doesn't die and starts to wreck havock among the local community. I've actually watched it few months ago and wasn't aware the events took place here until George, the shuttle driver pointed it out yesterday.
I've arrived at the campsite at around 7 pm, it was busy but nice, one person was lighting a campfire, another playing the banjo. As silly as it sounds, music completely transformed this mostly lifeless forest into a magical land of adventure. Campsite also had a bear box, where you could store your food safely from bears which was very convenient.
Notable hiker names I heard today: Flat Lander and Front Porch.
I really hope my legs will listen to me tomorrow as I gave them some hard time today!
