Appalachian Trail (day 19) - Iron Mountain to Little Hump Mountain / mile 388

Despite the forecast predicting rain, it was mostly sunny today which was a great surprise and it made the hike so much easier.

But initially, everything other than my spare clothes and sleeping bag was wet. It wasn't raining much over night but the meadow where we camped attracted the humidity and the tent was soaking wet in the morning. I've hanged it on top of my backpack to dry.

I have seen two deer, right after getting back on trail, they had big fluffy white tails pointing upwards, and greyish brown fur a bit lighter in colour from their European cousins. I didn't have a chance to take any pictures of them as the second they spotted me they ran away.

Climb to the top of Cloudland Hotel Site (there was a hotel here in XIXth century) took first half of the day. I've seen forest workers removing hurricane damage on the way up, I had to make sure they saw me before I've entered their workspace as they've been using chainsaws and making lots of noise.

Once on top, it was easy sailing with great views, day hikers enjoying them and even a little treat. Trail magic was run by the parents of one of the thru hikers (I haven't noted down any of their names as the conversation was quite chaotic). They've set up some snacks and drinks at Carver's Gap. They've been expecting to see their son here tomorrow after which they were going back home to Minnesota.
Next part of the trail consisting of three hills: Round Bald, Jane Bald and Grassy Ridge Bald was very popular with day hikers as it provided a 360 clear view of the area. After the last hill Appalachian Trail was turning left and away from this picturesque area.

I've checked the weather and it was supposed to start raining at 6 PM, I had about an hour to reach the campsite which required me to speed up. I've arrived here just in time and luckily it didn't start raining for another half an hour, which gave me enough time to cook dinner and hang the food.

Campsite was completely empty, it looked like I will have it all to myself tonight.
