Post PCT - Seattle (Billy Strings concert)
It looks like squirrels had some better things to do at night and I actually had a decent sleep, I wrapped up everything early before people started to arrive at the park and walked back to the Pike Place Market to have a cappuccino from the first Starbucks coffeeshop opened in 1912. I thought they will have some oldschool cups but nah, just the regular paper ones. On the old logo at the shop Starbucks still has boobs and nipples which makes a lot of people excited while they wait in the long line for their beverages.
After the coffee I had a walk alongside Lake Union towards Discovery Park, it was alright both the shore and the park, nothing too exciting but definitely worth that 3 hours of my time with a nice view of the docks and mount Rainier looming in the background, I turned back when I reached the small lighthouse at the end of the park.
From here I took the bus back to the city centre and then another one to the Marymoor Park, since I had time to spare I went to the Costco Wholesales where you could buy BIG, people were cruising around pushing their massive trolleys buying packets of 10 pizzas, 100 tortillas, 50 rolls of toilet paper. It looked more like a shop for small businesses where you can come and buy groceries for a restaurant or a hotel (which people most definitely also do) but I saw mainly families with kids doing their weekly shopping. I didn't buy anything as I didn't have a Costco card, half an hour wasted I guess but at least I've learned something new (and rather useless).
After that I started to make my way back towards the park, the problem was that I didn't buy a ticket to the concert yet but I was hoping to pick one up at the box office. It was 6:30pm and the car park was jam packed with vehicles, it looked like the event got sold out. Girl at the box office window confirmed it, no tickets for tonight's concert. Well it was totally my fault as I should have bought a ticket few days ago, I sat down by the entrance thinking to stay outside the fence during the show and maybe climb a tree to at least see some of it.
After ten minutes I noticed a bunch of people behind the queue line lifting their index fingers and looking around and I thought to myself "maybe they have spare tickets they want to sell?!" so I went over and asked, it was exact opposite of what I thought it was - they were looking for a way to 'hitchhike' into the concert but instead of the thumb they been using their index fingers! At this point since I didn't have any other alternative, I though why not do it myself, I made a lot of effort to make my way down here and it would be a shame to miss the concert. So I lifted my index finger up and within five minutes magic happened, two guys with spare ticket offered me a way in! Their family members couldn't come so they had extra tickets, result!
Concert was fabulous, one thing about Billy Strings and his band is that they definitely sound as good or better life than on records. His music attracts all kind of music fans from metalheads to hippies and various group ages. We were jamming to 'Red Daisy', 'Tall Tall Grass' and obligatory 'Dust in a Baggie' at the end, people were smoking so much weed (it's legal in Washington) that paramedics had to come to pick up few older guys just inhaling the clouds of it and fading.
I ended up setting up a camp in the park itself not too far from the concert grounds and got woken up in the morning by "Hello, this is Kent County Parks there is no camping here". Should have wrapped up the tent earlier but since my bus to Portland is not until 1pm I thought I can take my time, definitely a lesson for the future. Great day overall.
