Post PCT - Mazama
It wasn't technically a post PCT day today as we still had to backtrack 15 miles from the Canadian border back to the Harts Pass. Once there we waited until 1pm for Camp Hosts wife to come over and pick us up from the trail back to the local town called Mazama.
On the hike back I managed to meet two hikers I really didn't want to miss and say goodbye to Ravi and Shophie with whom I hiked for couple of days between Kennedy Meadows North and South Lake Tahoe and lo and behold they there were! Going straight to that border in the morning, I might still see them tomorrow at Mazama to have a celebratory beer, I hope they will make it.
Before Camp Hosts wife came, the parking lot at the Harts Pass has been converted into a car repair station, we had a lady ask us to change a tire on her Toyota as it was flat and the other girl went through a metal rod on the sidewalk with her car trapping the rod underneath. Camp Host, Huh? myself and Mad Dog (which we met back in the desert section driving around in his red campervan supporting his nephew) jumped in on the job and managed to fix both cars within an hour, it was quite hilarious. So what was the first thing you did after completing a thru hike.. oh well.
Camp Hosts wife arrived shortly after bringing some beers and bagels with hummus, we sat down for an hour having a chat about the events of last few days. Huh? decided to go with Mad Dog to Seattle for a gas fee of 100$ which was a decent deal. The rest of us went down to Mazama to have a quick coffee before our final goodbyes with Camp Host.
Myself, Tank Top and Tunes who joined us for the hitch to town decided to stay for the night at the local hikers haven called Ravensong's Roost, we could not make a better decision. Camping, laundry and showers were provided, we had a massive backyard with a gazebo and benches to hang out in, also a kitchen and a well stocked hiker box. The owner even made us some pork chops with apple sauce for supper, we sat down and talked till late.
We got joined by Josh Perry a Scottish hiker who just beat the best unsupported time to complete Pacific Crest Trail, he finished the entire trail in 55 days, beating the previous record by 5 days! Another guest in the haven was a day hiker called Sheriff who happens to go tomorrow evening to the Olympics Trail in Washington, which happens to be one of the best hikes in the area so I might join him since I don't have anything better planned yet, it seems like a budget friendly decision and it will bring me close to the Pacific Ocean which I could potentially follow down the coast after completing the hike. I shall make the final decision tomorrow.
